“The Wooden Floor is helping me make decisions, and it helps me lead a path for myself. I think The Wooden Floor gives us a lot of opportunities to help us figure out our future, as we’re headed into the adult world.”

“During my freshman year, The Wooden Floor was a supportive community that I didn’t have at that moment. In school you usually have friends, counselors, and many other people you can ask for help. Not being at school in-person during the pandemic, there was a lack of that. At The Wooden Floor, they provide a lot of support, even if they were little moments, they made a big impact in my life, especially as a freshman. High school was a whole new world for me, and The Wooden Floor’s Next Step© program helped me stay organized and make a plan for the rest of high school. To this day, I keep to this plan.”

“My dance partners, Michele and Joe Chatelle, are the sweetest people on earth. I feel really close to them and they are another support system for me. It’s like I have another set of parents.”

“Last year I was struggling because I was taking four honors classes, and I was really risking lowering my GPA. Tutoring at The Wooden Floor helped with a lot of time management and my homework. The extra push really helped to give me motivation to not give up.”

As we emerge from the pandemic, education remains at a critical juncture with students like Paola facing challenges, including learning losses being at an all-time high due to the extended time spent in remote learning. Without remedial support and educational opportunities to improve their learning losses, most of these impacted young people may not be able to catch up. The Wooden Floor provides students like Paola with academic counseling, college tours, tutoring, and a myriad of support services, including our Dance Partner program, which helps our students thrive – knowing someone is in their corner.
The Wooden Floor’s creative youth development approach is even more important at this time to help our students reach their full potential – both in school and in life.
It takes all of us to accomplish this.
You have the power to make a difference in the life of Paola and her fellow 475 students of The Wooden Floor.
“Dance not only gives me confidence but helps me see how I portray myself. You don’t have to always be perfect, but be confident and be a role model.”
