May 30 – June 1, 2024Irvine Barclay Theatre
We are looking forward to having you join us for The Wooden Floor’s 41st Annual Concert!
Below are details to make your evening most enjoyable. Please share this information with any guests who may be joining you.
Please Arrive Early
Lobby doors open one hour prior to all performances. Please arrive early to allow time to park and make your way to the theatre. To prevent disruption of a performance in progress, latecomers who have not entered the theatre when the performance begins will be asked to wait in the lobby until the piece on stage has concluded. This can be a significant length of time. Please note, if you leave the theatre other than during intermission, you will not be allowed back in until the piece on stage has concluded.
Purchase Parking in Advance
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time to park and walk to the theatre. For ease of parking, it is recommended that Annual Concert guests purchase their parking passes ahead of time via this link for UCI’s ParkbyPlate system.
By purchasing tickets with ParkbyPlate, guests receive a $3 discount, which allows for easy access to the parking structure without having to display a parking pass, as the car’s license plate serves as the parking permit. While we highly recommend purchasing your parking in advance, you may also purchase parking upon your arrival at the Irvine Barclay Theatre parking structure.
Children
Children of all ages are welcome; however, a paid ticket is required for everyone entering the theatre, including infants and children. In consideration of other patrons, parents are asked to remove crying or disruptive children from the theatre while the performance is in progress.
Cameras & Recording Equipment
The taking of photos or use of any mechanical or digital recording devices is strictly prohibited.
Cellular Phones & Other Electronic Devices
As a courtesy to all patrons, please turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones, or enable a non-audible setting before the performance begins. The intensity of light from even a silenced cellular phone can disrupt our dancers and the high level of concentration needed to perform safely.
Arts Night Out

UC Irvine
We have been closely monitoring the activities on the UC Irvine campus, in collaboration with Irvine Barclay Theatre. At this point, none of the activities on campus have occurred near the theatre nor have affected our plans for the 41st Annual Concert. As always, the health and safety of our students, families, staff, and supporters will remain our highest priority in all we do.
For Family of Dancers in the Performance
Please send your dancers with water and snacks/meals each day as The Wooden Floor does not provide food, except for lunch served on Saturday between the two performances.
When you arrive for the performance, please look for the parents/families table in the lobby to send your dancer a special message ($5 fee).
All dancers in the performance will receive an Onward t-shirt on Saturday, June 1.
All dancers will leave the theatre on buses provided by The Wooden Floor and there is no way to see your dancer at the theatre, even after the performance.
Noche cultural Arts Night Out
ABOUT THE DANCES
Choreographer Tristan Koepke’s new work, Bodies|Cities, is a dense movement tapestry: a complex and interactive network that brings together seemingly disparate and unique dancers, exploring how form and beauty can develop out of chance, collaboration, and spontaneity. Borrowing its name from the writing of philosopher Elizabeth Grosz, the work considers how individual actions have large impacts, and how we relate to ever-changing and impermanent environments. The dancers move in rolling waves through repeated gestures and variations, and show relationships and communities that develop, crumble apart, and inevitably reassemble.
Artistic Director Jennifer Bassage Bonfil’s latest piece draws inspiration from childhood games and memories, revealing the hidden joy and splendor in simplicity. Through repetitive movements, both the performer and the viewer find a meditative experience amid creative frenzy, discovering calmness in swift motion and stillness. The dancers explore internal versus external awareness, uncovering the intricate beauty within the seemingly straightforward. Original music by Daniel Manoiu underscores this uplifting piece with repetitive rhythms demonstrating that minimalism can hold profound complexity and the presumably insignificant can be meaningful.
Choreographer Momar Ndiaye’s piece explores one of the most significant African concepts that define humanism and community building from the Zulu people in South African region: “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu,” meaning “a person is a person through other persons.” In collaboration with the dancers, this piece explores and stages interhuman connectivity, and developments of expendable ecosystems that reimagine shifts and changes we all continually go through. From gestures, pedestrian activities, and socio-cultural codes attached to our identities, the dancers have collaboratively built movement vocabularies that reflect a balanced intercultural space.
