NEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS

As a growing nonprofit organization within the Orange County community, we value and honor the 35-years of trust bestowed upon us by the residents of Santa Ana and beyond, the constituents we serve, and everyone who is positively impacted by our focus on transforming the lives of young people through the power of dance and access to higher education. Annually, about 400 under-served youth and their families line up to audition for enrollment at The Wooden Floor. Unfortunately, about 80 percent are turned away due to high student retention and space constraints at our current campus on Main Street, amplifying the need for the organization’s vision to serve more youth.

In 2009, The Wooden Floor’s board and staff began exploring ways to leverage our successful outcomes locally and nationally after an ambitious strategic vision was set to deepen our work with youth most in need. We know our approach to creative youth development works, lifting under-served children to their full potential through the power of dance and access to higher education. The Wooden Floor was specifically selected by Orange Housing Development Corporation and C&C Development, the developers of the property adjacent to your neighborhood, due to our outstanding reputation, high artistic quality, and results. In the spring of 2018, The Wooden Floor will open a second location within the Depot at Santiago workforce housing complex.

The Wooden Floor’s second location within Depot at Santiago includes a new dance studio as well as an education and family resource center as part of the property’s Community Room. Select services will be open to residents of the Depot at Santiago housing community including adult education classes, community agency referrals, access to community resources, and community building and enrichment activities. These services will generate greater impact within Depot at Santiago, ultimately expanding through neighboring communities.

We understand that having new neighbors in your community can raise feelings of uncertainty for some residents. We want to reach out to all of our neighbors and provide you with the opportunity to let us know your thoughts and feelings about our continuing efforts to scale our impact. We are working diligently to ensure that our transition into your neighborhood goes smoothly and look forward to working together in building a better community.

We offer several ways to stay informed about upcoming projects and events at The Wooden Floor, and we invite you to participate in as many ways as you would like!
